Set amidst the picturesque alpine village of Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia, the 9th Annual Quilting in the Mountains Festival is one not to miss!
This years instructor, Kathy K. Wylie is a multiple international-award winning quilter specializing in appliqué techniques in a "contemporary traditional" style. Her quilt Instruments of Praise earned the 2011 Bernina Machine Workmanship Award from the American Quilters Society and now resides in the National Quilt Museum of the United States as part of its permanent collection. She was honored to receive the 2011 Founder's Award from the International Quilt Association for her quilt Flourish on the Vine. Kathy lectures and teaches all over Canada at guilds, shops and quilt shows and is a CQA Certified Quilt Judge. She is the author of Sewflakes: Papercut Appliqué Quilts (C&T Publishing, 2007) and has released other patterns in print and on-line at PatternSpot.com.

Quilt ShowsThis year, we are pleased to offer three separate quilt shows!The Judged Quilt Show will take place in the Delta Hotel Ballroom CD. This year’s judge is Kathy K. Wylie from Whitby, Ontario. Kathy is a Canadian Quilters Association Certified Judge who herself has won many national and international awards for her beautiful quilts. Kathy will provide written critiques to the makers of all quilts entered in the show. The larger than ever show will feature 100 or more quilts in three categories – Bed Quilts, Wall or Lap Quilts and Art Quilts for which awards will be presented. This is a judged show only, not juried. Acceptance is on a first come basis. To enter your quilts in this show Quilt registration can be completed online HERE or by downloading the Entry Form HERE. As an extra feature, this year’s event will include two travelling quilt shows. Passages, Portals and Beyond by the Fabricators of Grand Forks/Oliver area of BC made its debut at Quilt Canada 2010 in Calgary. This show of over 25 quilts will be in the Hearthstone Lodge. The Fibre Art Network, a group of Canadian quilters from the western provinces, presents their From Away show. The 28 pieces premiered in Halifax at Quilt Canada 2012 and have toured many quilting events since. The show can be seen at Nancy Greene’s Cahilty Lodge.

Merchant MallUp to ten merchants will be present at Quilting in the Mountains offering a variety of quilting and related supplies and services. Included on site is a scissors and knife sharpener so be sure to bring your dull tools to the mountain and take them home sharp! Merchants will be located at all show venues and open during show hours.

In this workshop, learn from the author how to design these unique snowflakes for fabric, with an emphasis on incorporating recognizable images into the design. Borrow from cutwork stitching techniques and discover how to appliqué your design by machine with a beautiful satin-stitch finish. Water-soluble stabilizer helps to make this technique easy and successful. Learn how to appliqué complex designs without fusible web! Note: You may also choose to appliqué your unique design by hand. If so, bring hand appliqué tools and freezer paper.

So often a border of straight strips is attached just to finish the project. With a little thought and some extra effort, a simple pieced border could often add to the appeal of the quilt.This workshop will enable you to sew samples of various pieced borders, build up a collection of designs suitable for borders, and to learn the basics of sizing, border patterns to fit the body of the quilt. Bring quilt tops that still need borders and raid your stash for fabric to sew samples of various designs.If you don’t have any finished quilt tops, bring whatever you are working on.
