Locals ‘Gobble’ up 1st Annual Bluebird Turkey Dinner at Sun PeaksDecember 31, 2010: Sun Peaks, BC – Sun Peaks is a home away from home for many people during the winter season. This year on Christmas Day, the first annual Bluebird Turkey Dinner was held at Burfield Lodge for those living away from home to work and ski at Sun Peaks.
Over 100 meals were served to staff living in corporate accommodations, the Sun Peaks hostel and other homes around the resort on Christmas Day.
This first annual event was the brainchild of Kelly Richard, manager of the Bluebird Market, and Jonathan Sim, Facilities Supervisor for the Sun Peaks Resort Corporation (SPRC).
“We really wanted to offer a ‘home-style’ turkey dinner for anyone living away from home, or people who were just plain hungry!” said Sim, who recognized the Food and Beverage Department at SPRC and Kelly Richard’s family for making dinner possible.
The organizers requested a minimum $2.00 donation for dinner, although no one was turned away. “We raised over $300, which will be split 50/50 between the Sun Peaks Health Centre and the Bluebird Day Fund,” says Richard.
The highlight of the evening? An anonymous guest sat down to his turkey dinner and left $100, which will be split between the two charitable organizations.
