Sun Peaks, BC - For the tenth year in a row, people are preparing to run or walk through the amazing alpine setting of Sun Peaks Resort to raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon.

Taking place during Summer Kick-Off Weekend, Jo’s Road Race (June 30, 2012), presented by the Run Club, has become a time honored tradition for many Sun Peaks residents and those joining in from the surrounding region. With run options for all levels of ability, including kids, the event has proven to be a great, active event for the entire family.

“We are so excited for the 10th Annual Jo’s Road Race this year,” says Jo Berry of Jo Berry’s Run Club. “We love Sun Peaks and are passionate to showcase the beautiful village and all the fun that happens in the summer.”

Participants are taken on a 3km walk or a 5km or 10km run loop following the Valley Trail which highlights incredible mountain views and some of Sun Peaks’ most popular summer scenes, including the Golf Course, the covered bridge and McGillivray Creek. The entire course is paved for easy traction and running. There is also a 1km Children’s Fun Run for kids 10 and under looking to get in on the action.

"We are adding even more fun and zaniness this year by making it all about relaxation and play,” says Berry. “There will be some very fun prizes to reflect this and we encourage everyone to come in costume for Canada Day or a different theme.”

This year, the run will be followed by a free concert in the Village square featuring Steel Wheels, a Rolling Stones cover band.

Adding to the mix of fun running races this summer, Sun Peaks will also host  The North Face Dirty Feet Mountain Run - Sun Peaks (September 8, 2012). Participants will run a 5km fun run or a 15km mountain run.
