Sun Peaks, BC - Families and travellers looking for value added components to their holidays will enjoy Canada’s Alpine Blossom Festival (August 4 - 5), one of Sun Peaks longest standing summer events. The festival celebrates one of the most vibrant and easily accessible alpine blossom displays (mid-July to mid-August) in Canada and has many free activities and events including the Third Annual “Reach the Peak” Tod Mountain Summit Hike (August 4).
Canadian Senator and Sun Peaks local Nancy Greene Raine will be among the experienced volunteer guides to lead guests to the summit of the historic Tod Mountain at 2152 meters. The hike leads summiteers of all ages on a moderate trail through Sun Peaks’ alpine meadows including a stop at Tod Lake. Hikers can expect to see meadows overtaken with lupin, fireweed, indian paintbrush and other alpine flora making for stunning photo opportunities.
“This hiking event has been done by children as young as six and grandparents as old as 85,” says Nancy Greene Raine, Canadian Senator and Director of Skiing at Sun Peaks Resort. “Personally, I love to hike in the alpine meadows at this time of year when the flowers are at their prime.”
A breakfast for hikers with Nancy Greene Raine and the volunteer guides will be at Masa's Bar + Grill located in the Village Day Lodge at 9:00am. Guests can purchase their hiking lift ticket and receive priority loading on the Sunburst Express Chairlift at 9:30am. Summiteers are asked to leave for the hike as early as possible as the round trip can take up to 4.5 hours.
Photographers will be on hand along the route to document the hike and all participants are encouraged to arrive at 1:00pm to the summit of Tod Mountain for the group photo with Nancy Greene Raine.
Guests are asked to pre-register for this popular event by contacting Guest Services at firstname.lastname@example.org or 250-578-5474 and to note although the guided hike is free, lift ticket access is required.
In addition the guided hike, the weekend festival features free kids’ activities in the village such as a climbing wall, bouncy castle and other entertainment. Free outdoor live music performances from singer/songwriter Dave Phillips as well as the band “She Stole My Beer” will add a fun element to the weekend and can be enjoyed by all ages at family friendly times.
