Sun Peaks, BC - Registration opens today for the highly anticipated Bluebird Banked Slalom at Sun Peaks Resort on February 17.

Back for its second year, hundreds of man hours have gone into clearing a new race course located skier’s right on 5 Mile and Cahilty ski runs, called “Hully Gully”. The course will utilize the natural banked terrain and features making for a one-of-a-kind race.

“We’ve cleared out the Cahilty gully which is really a natural, banked half pipe,” says Seth Worthen, slopes manager for Sun Peaks Resort.  “The course will have great flow and will stand with the best banked slalom courses out there.

“Working with the large amounts of snow Sun Peaks has received this season, we are going to groom down the centre with a snow cat before our shovel crews head in to build the course.”

Sponsored by the Bluebird Day Fund, a local organization in memory of rider Bryn Taylor, this event has become the highlight of many local residents’ winters and brings out an amazing group of competitors and spectators.

Open to both skiers and riders 19 years of age and over, participants will compete against the clock on a closed banked slalom course. Each competitor will get one or two timed runs, dependent on the weather.

Registration is $75 and includes a tons of prizing, swag bag with souvenir gift, beer and burger and entry to the 'Bluebird Banked Slalom After Party' at The Club. Advance registration is required and takes place at Guest Services located in the Village Day Lodge or by calling 250-578-5474. Registration is limited to 100 people and spots are anticipated to fill quickly.
