Sun Peaks, BC - Last weekend, over 150 racers from across B.C’s Okanagan converged at Sun Peaks for the 7th Annual Teck Okanagan Zone GS Series. These athletes, from U12 to Masters, find Nancy Greene’s International Race Training Centre the perfect place to prove their abilities.

“Athletes can excel here,” says Johnny Crichton, head coach of Sun Peaks Alpine Ski Club. “It’s a top level course which is very safe and has great terrain with solid grooming.”

Other alpine racing clubs find Sun Peaks race training facilities exceptionally built and maintained, drawing organizations from around the globe, including the Austria National Ski team prior to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

“The Nancy Greene International Training Centre facility is awesome, the Race Organizing Committee and the resort did a great job putting on this race,” says Jorgen Anderson, head coach of the Apex Ski Club. “It’s was an awesome example for other clubs to come and see how it’s done”

The Teck Okanagan Zone GS Series drew over 500 people to the resort, including competitors, their families and volunteers. This event and others like it help bolster the resort’s occupancy and economy in otherwise slower periods.

This season, over 20 race teams trained at the race centre equalling more than 500 athletes.

Last weekend also saw action from younger racers and families participating in fun racing activities around the mountain, such as the 7th Annual Sun Peaks Family Cup and the Toonie Races, part of a fundraiser for local ski racer Elli Terwiel who is currently on the World Cup circuit. Terwiel placed 17th in the World Cup Women’s Slalom in Flachau, Austria on Tuesday.

Sun Peaks’ exceptional athletic facilities are not limited to alpine racing. This weekend, the BC Snowboard Provincial Series will take place in the Rockstar Energy Terrain Park, one of the best terrain parks in the region for safety, progression and variety of features. This event provides an opportunity for athletes to compete for FIS points and to qualify for Canada Snowboard Nationals.
