We are all passionate about winter sports and love to share that with our guests, no wonder so many return year after year to ski and ride with us. You'll find our School provides a very friendly and personalized level of service, with priority placed on exceeding our guests' expectations, every time.
Our instructors are carefully chosen from hundreds of applications each season. The Sun Peaks Sports School is renowned as an excellent place to work and it's in part thanks to this that we see so many of our staff returning every year. Instructors are friendly, passionate, knowledgeable, well trained, and committed to providing our guests with a great experience in a fun and safe environment.
One of the best features of our Resort is the incredible teaching terrain, offering ideal progression from beginner to intermediate levels to ensure success. Beginner green runs are accessible from each and every lift, allowing guests of any level to experience more of our three mountains. Advanced and expert guests have plenty of terrain to explore as well, resulting in fun and exciting performance clinics.
It's fun and exciting! This is made a top priority at Sun Peaks Resort.
Improve your skills. Regardless of your current ability level, you can always learn and improve to better your experience.
Build confidence. More confidence will allow you to find more enjoyment in snow sports.
Explore more terrain. Learn the skills and confidence to explore every acre of our mountain playground.
Make friends. You're sure to meet new people and make friends from around the world.
As a first timer, taking a lesson is the safest and most fun way to be introduced to the world of snow sports.
The Sports School sales desk and Guest Services are located in the Village Day Lodge at the base of the Sunburst and Sundance chairlifts. This is where you check-in for lessons and can pick-up your rental equipment and lift tickets (the rental shop is next to the Sports School for a one stop shop).
The meeting area for all lessons is just around the corner from the Sports School office and right at the base of our beginner area.
Due to ever-changing conditions, we recommend dressing in layers;
Thermal long underwear or tights as a base layer is recommended.
Socks should be a wool/polyester blend and not too bulky, one pair of socks is sufficient.
Outer layer should be water and wind resistant. If your outer layer is not insulated, add extra layers underneath for warmth.
Wool and polyester/fleece blends are warmer and drier than cotton.
A warm hat is necessary on cold days; on warmer days (above 0°C) a headband or cap is sufficient. We recommend the use of helmets but it is not mandatory.
Gloves or mittens are essential.
Wear goggles to protect your eyes on snowy and/or windy days.
Sunscreen is strongly recommended for sunny days.
Sun Peaks has some of the best beginner terrain anywhere; from our beginner-only area to Gentle Giant and Homesteader, we offer fantastic progression on the mountain that helps beginners learn easily and quickly. Our various carpets and surface lifts are well adapted and easy to use.
Ski and snowboard boots should provide a relaxed and comfortable fit, designed to feel snug when done up providing foot stability. Remember, ski socks are preferable and one pair is sufficient.
Ski poles are useful for balance and rhythm while skiing, learning with poles is a good idea.
Always wear a helmet and other protective gear.
Remember to take it easy, and stop for the occasional rest.
Stay hydrated throughout the day.
Follow the Alpine Responsibility Code.
