The anticipation for the 2024-25 ski and snowboard season is at an all-time high and there are a ton of exciting new projects launching this season that we wanted to share with you!
New West Bowl Express Chairlift – Unlocking the Alpine
If you haven’t heard, we’re opening our eighth quad chairlift in Sun Peaks this winter! This brand new state-of-the-art Dopplemayr high-speed detachable quad lift will be our highest elevation chair in Sun Peaks, whisking guests to a top elevation of 2,093m. New Powder Ventures Cross Course
This past summer we embarked on a major project to build our snow cross course on Sundance Mountain permanently from dirt, in partnership with Powder Ventures Excavations, a local company operating for 25 years and deeply committed to the community. The new Powder Ventures Cross Course will open to guests this winter. Be sure to give it a try - no experience is necessary! If you can competently ski or ride, you can glide down a snow cross course and feel the thrill of the corners and bumps along the way.
New Elevation Loading Conveyor
Joining the ranks of the Crystal chairlift, Elevation now sports a shiny new loading conveyor, ready to ease your loading experience. If you haven’t encountered a loading conveyor, here’s a how-to article we shared when the Crystal conveyor launched.
New Kids Adventure Zone on Mt. Morrisey
We’re thrilled to bring you the next installment of our Kids Adventure Zones multi-year project. This winter, Grouse’s Nest will open on Mt. Morrisey. Cruise down the Sticks trail and you’ll encounter this new kid-friendly banked slalom style course, with hidden grouses to spot along the way! Last year we launched Bear’s Lair on Sundance Mountain, where a new secret entrance to Three Bears trail welcomes skiers into the forest. Fun characters are hidden among the trees, both ending with a cool photo op.
New Real-Time Shuttle Tracker, a partnership with Ski Krumb
Our complimentary in-resort shuttle is now equipped with a GPS system, powered by Ski Krumb, this allows you to see where the shuttle is in real-time. Our shuttle schedule has expanded to include an evening service from November 16 through to closing day.
Major Snowmaking Enhancements
A six-year, multi-million dollar snowmaking enhancement project has commenced. This season sees the addition of tower-mounted fan guns, including the star of the show, a fix mount fan gun on a swing arm located at the junction of OSV and 5 Mile. Many of our snow guns are newly equipped with on-board weather stations to automate their start and stop operation, providing efficiency and real-time response to conditions. Permanent ground infrastructure has also been added to the snow-making system in new locations. A whopping 36 snow guns now operate in various areas, supporting early-season and terrain park operations, along with in-season fill-ins when required.
New Snowcats & Snow Bucket
Two new PistenBully cats – a PB400 Winch and PB400 Park Pro - have joined our grooming fleet as part of our annual rollover plan to maintain more efficient models. Plus, for the first time, we now have a snow bucket attachment for our snowcats to pick up and move large quantities of snow – talk about a fun new tool for the grooming team!
New Nordic Trails
Look for 2.7km of newly added Nordic trails – Bear Cub, Fox Trot and Phil’s Way – now listed on our updated Nordic trail map.
Terrain Park Improvements
A number of enhancements have been added to the Terrain Park on Sundance Mountain this season. With new lighting and an expanded area in Base Camp, a new location for Basic Training, expanded area and enhanced features in Flight School, and earth-work improvements on large features in Drop Zone.
Sun Peaks Rentals, Newly Renovated
Our long-time Village Day Lodge Rental Shop has received a major renovation and is ready to greet guests for their ski and snowboard rental needs this season. New touch screens have greatly improved the check-in process, the space is bright and airy, and new equipment storage racks provide ease of use for our teams. Our quick waxing service is still conveniently available from the slopeside entrance.
Red Fox Lodge
We’re thrilled to have opened our sixth employee housing building, the Red Fox Lodge, in the main employee housing pod. Employees have just moved in and this modern building with thoughtful amenities adds 116 pillows; we can now house up to 447 staff members who join us each season from around the world!
