Join Helly Hansen and Sun Peaks Snow Safety teams for Avalanche Awareness & Snow Safety Day on Sunday, February 2, 2025. 

Stop by Beacon Basin, located at the top of the Sunburst Express, to learn about safe travel in backcountry terrain, the hazards that exist in the backcountry and how to avoid them, and where to get formal backcountry training and more information.

Part of Avalanche Awareness Days, a country-wide initiative supported by Avalanche Canada, this community event raises awareness of safe backcountry travel and the invaluable role Avalanche Canada plays in providing information for backcountry recreationists.

Due to the hard work and knowledge of our Snow Safety team, the in-bounds terrain at Sun Peaks Resort poses little risk of avalanches, however, this all changes once you enter the backcountry.

Transceiver Searches: Practice your transceiver search skills. Get feedback on improving your technique from one of our Snow Safety team members. Record your time for a chance to win prizes!

Probing Practice: Practice your probing technique and get feedback from one of our Snow Safety team members.

Shoveling Relay: Learn the conveyor belt shoveling technique and see how it helps to shift avalanche debris more quickly. Sign up at the tent to be part of a team for one of three shovel relay races for a chance to win prizes!
