Nancy Greene International Race Centre

The Nancy Greene International Race Centre at Sun Peaks Resort is known worldwide for its consistent snow conditions, exceptional grooming, and dedicated chairlift access. The Race Centre regularly welcomes top alpine teams from around the world, offering an ideal environment for early-season race preparation.

About the Resort

Sun Peaks offers over 4,400 acres of skiable terrain with a variety of runs for all ages and skill levels. The alpine-style village is located at the base of the lifts, allowing you to stay within a five-minute walk of the Sunburst Express chairlift (which offers early load access).

Race Centre users may use their passes to ski either before or after their lane times.

Following the public opening date, teams will have access to open public terrain. Prior to opening day (weather permitting), teams may be able to ski down Cahilty and 5 Mile to the Elevation chairlilift before or after their scheduled lane session.

There is no requirement to book accommodation with a specific hotel. This flexibility gives teams more affordable lodging options and supports a range of budget-friendly training camps.

About the Snow

Snowmaking lines run the full length of the course—from top to bottom—ensuring a reliable early-season opening. While specific lane requests are considered, assignments are made based on team size and overall traffic flow and cannot be guaranteed.

Sun Peaks is the first ski resort in Canada to implement a snow storage system developed by Finnish company Snow Secure, helping to ensure early-season training by preserving snow through the off-season.

In April 2025, a large snow pile (300ft x 100ft x 30ft) was built on the OSV ski run and covered with insulated mats equipped with real-time monitoring. This stored snow is used to reinforce early snowmaking efforts on OSV.

The resort invested $180,000 in 18 specialized mats designed to retain 75–80% of the snow and protect it from the elements. This initiative also helps conserve natural resources, saving approximately 1.5 million gallons of snowmaking water while mitigating unpredictable early-season weather conditions.

This innovation complements ongoing multi-year snowmaking upgrades, which include new snow guns, weather monitoring systems, and infrastructure improvements.

Race Centre Map

The Nancy Greene International Race Centre operates on the OSV and Lower Chute ski runs. Athletes and staff access the top of the race centre via the Sunburst Express chairlift, uploading from the base area. During the early season, downloading via the Sunburst Express chairlift is permitted to ensure consistent access when snow coverage at lower elevations is limited.

The Elevation chairlift provides efficient mid-mountain transportation, offering a swift and convenient six-minute ride from the base of the race runs back to the top.

Located at the summit of the Sunburst Express chairlift and adjacent to the OSV run, the Sunburst Bar + Eatery serves as a key facility for athletes and visitors. It offers food and beverage services (during public opening), washroom facilities, and functions as a warming area, providing comfort and convenience during training and competition days.
