Crews from Sun Peaks Resort and Doppelmayr have been hard at work this summer in the early stages of construction of the new Orient quad chairlift. While much of the major work will be completed over the fall, significant progress has already been made on groundwork for the new addition to the resort.
A wet spring kept everyone on their toes and led to some short delays, but drier conditions in July got things back on track. After some initial surveying and engineering work, crews began the first significant stage of the project; logging and clearing the new lift line. The majority of the logging work is now complete, offering a clear visual reference for the location of the new lift, which will run directly opposite the Morrisey chairlift. The line clearing has revealed numerous stunning new vantage points of Mt. Morrisey and the village, which are sure to be a hit with guests this winter.
Other work completed so far includes grading of the top terminal area, layout and design of a new green run which will connect to Rambler and the main village, and the relocation of services for the bottom terminal.
Throughout the remainder of the summer, work will focus on finishing the new connector run, fine tuning the grading and alignment of the lift line, grading for the bottom terminal, and beginning foundation work and concrete pouring for the lift towers and terminals. Major equipment and parts will also begin to arrive in the coming weeks.
Once fall arrives things will kick into top gear, with the installation of lift towers, the rope line, and terminals providing plenty of action to keep the teams busy. This will be an exciting stage in the process, so we’ll make sure to share plenty of photos of how things are progressing.
As we move into the final weeks of summer at Sun Peaks, the construction of the Orient quad is running on schedule with a planned opening just before the Christmas holidays. We’re excited to see everything come together over the next few months, so stay tuned for more updates as the work continues.
