After careful consideration of the current situation due to COVID-19 and the provincial relaunch strategy, we’re excited to announce that summer at Sun Peaks kicks off this month. We’ll be implementing modifications to our normal operating procedures in order to keep our staff, guests, and community safe, some details of which we’ll share with you today, others will be released later this month. We’re stoked to be able to provide you with opportunities to explore the wide-open spaces of the mountains through our key summer activities of mountain biking, alpine hiking, and golf.
Read on for all the details of opening dates for each specific activity, summer passes and tickets, new operating procedures, and more.
Each area of our business has specific operating practices in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of all. We ask that you look for and follow all posted COVID-19 signage, as well as respect directions given by our staff. We’ve been working with the Canada West Ski Areas Association on standardized lift operating practices, following the guidelines of the National Golf Course Owners Association of Canada, and working closely with WorkSafeBC to put these practices in place. For the chairlift, you will see a reduction in the number of passengers per chair, modified lift lines and increased sanitation. For the golf course, we’ve increased the time between tee times and have other specific guidelines in place for both check-in and while on the course. Click here to read more.
COVID-19 operating guidelines specific to individual restaurants and shops can be found on their business pages on our website or by contacting the business directly to inquire.
Golf Course
Golf fans rejoice! The golf course is opening for members only this Saturday, June 13 and then to the general public on Friday, June 26. As of Monday, June 15, local Sun Peaks residents are also permitted, with valid proof of address. Golf season will run daily until start of October, weather permitting. The driving range will not be operating this summer. Due to early season conditions there will be limited operations on the course for opening.
Bike Park
We know all you riders are keen to get tires in the dirt, so circle Monday, June 29 in your calendar as the official Bike Park opening day! However, as an extra bonus to our Bike Season Pass holders and to help us ease into operations, we’ll be open early for pass holders only from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28. Bike season will then run daily until Sunday, September 13, followed by two Bonus Weekends (September 18 to 20, September 25 to 27).
This summer, the Sunburst Express will be open for biking and hiking seven days a week from 10:00am – 5:00pm. The Bike Park Carpets in the Progression Park will match the same hours and dates. Please see below important information regarding the pre-purchase of Bike Park tickets before arrival in Sun Peaks.
Hiking
The wildflowers are on their way! As with biking, lift-accessed hiking will be available for Hiking Season Pass holders only on the first weekend of chairlift operations. The free hiking pass perk for returning Alpine Season Pass holders will be available again this summer, however it won’t be available or in effect until online winter season pass sales open the first week of July. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Hiking season will run for the same dates as the Bike Park season above, with the lift running seven days a week from 10:00am – 5:00pm. Please see below for important information regarding the pre-purchase of Hiking tickets before arrival to Sun Peaks. Given the wet spring and current conditions, we anticipate most alpine hiking trails will be closed during our first week of operations.
Bike Park Season Passes Have Now Sold Out!
As of June 25, 2020 Bike Park Season Passes are no longer available to purchase. This summer we limited the amount of passes sold to help us manage guest volumes and adhere to modified operational practices. If you purchased your pass online pick up your pass from Guest Services when you arrive.
Hike Season Passes
Hiking season passes are also available online now. As with bike passes, we may restrict the number of passes available. If you’re a returning Alpine Season Pass holder from last winter you will receive your complimentary hiking pass after online winter season pass sales open the first week of July.
Golf Course Memberships
Welcome back golf members! 2020 memberships are now available for purchase online at great rates. Purchase your membership today, pick up at Guest Services starting this Friday, then get your clubs ready to hit the course from June 13 onwards.
Combo Season Passes & Summer Peaks Cards
Unfortunately we are not able to offer the option of combining your winter and summer passes this year, due to operational changes and impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Peaks Cards are also not available this summer.
Bike Park Day Tickets
Bike Park tickets are available now through our online store. To help us manage guest numbers, overall guest experience, and ensure that our new safety procedures are followed, we will be limiting the total number of tickets available for purchase each day. Tickets should be purchased online, in advance to guarantee your access to the park; window ticket sales will not be available for the majority of the summer. Multi-day ticket options will not be available this summer.
Hiking Day Tickets
Same as bike tickets, there will be a limited amount of hiking tickets available for sale each day, to manage guest numbers, overall guest experience, and ensure our new safety procedures are followed. Tickets should be purchased online, in advance to guarantee access; window ticket sales will not be available for the majority of the summer. Multi-day ticket options will not be available this year.
Golf Tee Times
We’re pleased to introduce a new online system for booking tee times this summer! Both our members and guests visiting the course will be able to quickly and conveniently check available tee times via our website, then book a round online at the time they prefer. All 2020 tee time bookings must be made prior to arrival at the course; walk-ins are not accepted this summer. Book online or by calling the Golf Shop.
Dining
Sun Peaks Resort operated dining establishments such as Masa’s Bar + Grill and Café Soleil have recently re-opened with limited hours, reduced capacity, and other additional safety procedures in place, and will be open throughout the summer. The mid-mountain Sunburst Lodge will also be open for the summer in a limited capacity. Other bars and restaurants throughout the village have started to re-open to provide dining options for guests too. Check our website or contact your favourite establishment directly for more information on current hours.
Rental and Retail
Fall Line Tuning and Repair Centre is now open with new operational guidelines in place to provide bike tuning and repair services ahead of the Bike Park season kick-off. Click here for information on how to use these services with the new operating procedures in place. Bike rentals will be available once the bike season is underway.
We anticipate that Elevation Bike, Ski, and Board and other retail shops throughout the village will also re-open once chairlift operations have begun. Check our website closer to the season for more information.
Events and Other Activities
Due to current regulations from health authorities, there will be no large-scale events in Sun Peaks this summer. Despite this, we will strive to hold smaller scale events, such as the Sun Peaks Farmers’ Market (starts July 5), and other small activations throughout the village when this can be done in a safe manner. As events are confirmed they will be added to our online event calendar which you can check throughout the summer.
A number of other summer activities will be unavailable this year. This includes the Mountain Cross Carts, as well as the Kids Zone featuring the bungee trampoline and Tod Mountain Mining Co. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause. You can visit the Summer Activities page on our website for more information on what will be available.
We thank you for your patience while we developed our plan for the summer, as well as your continued understanding while we ease back into operations in a safe manner. Due to the COVID-19 shut down, our new operational procedures, and a wet spring combined with a deep snow pack, it may take a little longer than normal for everything to be running at 100% this year, however we look forward to welcoming you back for summer fun in the mountains.
See you soon!
