The wait is almost over! The lifts start turning at 9:00am tomorrow (Saturday, November 17) to kick off another fantastic season here at Canada’s second largest ski area. We're stoked to be the first resort in BC to open for winter 2018/19!

It’s looking nice and wintry in the alpine, which is where the best turns will be found on opening day, and our on-mountain staff are working around the clock to get as many trails as possible ready for Saturday. At this stage the Sunburst Express, Crystal, and Elevation will all be open for your first runs of the season. Downloading will be in effect on the Sunburst Express for the morning, but if the weather stays in our favour we’re hoping to be able to open skiing to the bottom via 5 Mile by the end of the day.
The exact number of available runs will depend on the weather tonight, but at this stage we’ll have 21 runs, including part of Gil's, ready for opening. Please ski and ride with caution due to the early season conditions and stick to groomed runs like Spillway, Cahilty, and upper 5 Mile for the best ski experience.
Lift tickets will be 50% off throughout opening weekend.
We still need a little more help from Ullr before we can open the Nordic trails, so stay tuned for updates over the coming days. We’re hoping Mother Nature will help fill in the blanks soon so we can get out and start grooming for our cross country friends as soon as possible.
Finally, we’re happy to announce that the Sunburst Bar + Eatery at mid-mountain will be open and welcoming guests as normal this weekend. Leading into the season we completed renovations on both of the bathrooms, so the lodge is looking better than ever!
Please remember that there are many Sun Peaks Resort team members and a lot of machinery on the mountain working hard to get everything ready for opening. Please be patient and stay off the slopes until Saturday, as it is not safe to access the mountain until our crews have completed all their work to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on opening day. Once the lifts are running, we ask that everyone be mindful of roped off or closed zones. Please do not enter these areas until they are open.
Be sure to stick around on Saturday and raise a toast to the start of winter with our Après and Ales after party at Masa’s Bar + Grill. From 2:00pm to 7:00pm your day ticket or season pass will score you a beverage on the house*. We’ll be following up après with a snowboard movie premiere and a live DJ playing into the late hours.
