Spring has sprung, but there’s plenty of amazing cross-country skiing left this season at Sun Peaks Resort. We’ve still got tons of snow up here in the mountains and we anticipate excellent trail conditions all the way until our closing day on Sunday, April 15.
If you’ve never visited Sun Peaks, or it’s been awhile, here are five reasons to grab your skinny skis and head on up:
Just like with our alpine trails, we take grooming seriously here in Sun Peaks. All 37km of our main Nordic network (we also have 17km of ungroomed backcountry trails) is groomed and track set daily, providing an impeccable skiing surface for you to enjoy. Whether skate or classic is your thing our grooming will ensure an enjoyable day on the trails.
There’s just something about those mountain views! Whether it’s the majesty of Mt. Tod towering over the village or the beauty of a frozen McGillivray Lake, breathtaking vistas are revealed around every corner on our Nordic trail network. Spring is the perfect time to soak in the views as sunshine and blue skies replace the snow storms of mid-winter.
Looking for something new in your Nordic? Here in Sun Peaks your Nordic day ticket includes two rides up the Morrisey Express chairlift to discover the lift accessed Holy Cow trail. Enjoy the experience of skiing on top of a mountain while saving your legs to explore deeper into the network later in the day.
Think skiing in Sun Peaks means leaving your furry winter companion behind? Don’t worry! We have a selection of dog friendly trails you can ski with your pooch, which you can combine into an 8km loop from the village to McGillivray Lake. The designated dog trails are a mix of on and off leash, so please leash your four-legged friend in the applicable areas.
Our dedicated Nordic facilities will help you enjoy your ski day even more! Sun Peaks Nordic skiers enjoy the convenience of a large, free parking area (P5) just steps from the trailhead. Adjacent to P5 and the trails is the Sun Peaks Nordic Centre, a one stop shop for all your Nordic needs. Swing by the Nordic Centre for equipment rentals, tickets, trail information, to change your boots, or simply to warm up and chat with fellow enthusiasts.
Once out on the trails the cabin at the McGillivray Lake Outpost is the perfect spot to stop for a mid-ski snack, rest, and bathroom break, then after you finish up the many bars and restaurants of the village beckon for that post ski refuel.
Bonus Tip: You can save up to 16% off the regular price when you buy your Nordic tickets in advance from our online store! Regular adult day ticket price is $19.
