While another summer begins to wind down and thoughts turn eagerly to the first snowflakes of the winter, construction crews are hard at work across Sun Peaks during one of our busiest ever development years.
There’s been plenty of excitement around the improvements being made to our on-mountain food and beverage outlets since we announced the plans in March, so it’s time for an update on the progress of these projects, as well as several other exciting developments around the resort.
The expansion of the Sunburst Mid-Mountain Lodge to double the indoor capacity is in full swing. Construction crews are working daily to erect the robust timber framing that will serve as an iconic feature of the new interior, with trucks hauling large loads of the framing up 5 Mile Road over the past few weeks.
The progress on the Bento’s 2.0 project isn’t quite as obvious on the outside, however the building has been stripped out awaiting the complete remodel and expansion of the interior.
Both projects are on schedule for completion by the start of ski season and will be ready to welcome hungry skiers and boarders on opening day!
After years of planning, fundraising, and hard work by many members of the Sun Peaks community the new Health Centre is close to completion. This addition is eagerly awaited by locals and guests alike and will provide crucial services to our growing municipality, as well as providing a new home for Ski Patrol.
The building is in the finishing stages of construction and is scheduled to be completed by the end of August. Ski Patrol will move across to their new facilities following the Labour Day weekend, with the rest of the facility opening in time for ski season.
For years the distinctive red roof on the barn-like building of the Sun Peaks International Hostel welcomed skiers to Sun Peaks as they entered the resort. Many people in the community felt a twinge of sadness as they watched the demolition of this piece of Sun Peaks history back in May, however a new, much needed replacement is quickly rising in its place.
The new building will be a mix of affordable, hostel-style lodging and staff accommodation; a combination that is a welcome addition to our growing village. Construction is progressing well, with an opening date to be finalized in the coming months.
Good news if you’re looking to make a little piece of Sun Peaks your own! This year has been our busiest for real estate development since 2007, with 20 new housing starts.
The construction of Village Walk is proceeding as planned, with the first seven townhome units due for completion before the winter season starts. The final project will add 24 new units to the previously empty lot beside the Kookaburra Lodge. Demand has been high for this prime location close to the village, with just two units still available at time of writing.
We’re excited to officially announce the launch of another new development in Sun Peaks: Echo Landing. Echo Landing will provide ski-in/ski-out living in the winter and overlooks the 15th hole of the golf course in the summer. Stay tuned for more information about this project in the months ahead.
The Lookout Ridge subdivision in the East Village has almost sold out, with just one developer lot currently remaining for sale.
We’re thrilled by the progress made so far in 2017 as we continue to push forward on our mission to provide the finest mountain resort experience. This summer is a taste of what’s to come as we move into an exciting future in Sun Peaks and we can’t wait to show you the new additions in person this winter!
