Sun Peaks Resort recognizes that protecting and maintaining the natural environment is essential to ensuring our mountains can be enjoyed by generations to come.
We are committed to conducting our operations in an environmentally responsible manner, by protecting the land and its flora, fauna, and natural processes. The Sun Peaks team will:
- Comply with, or exceed, all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
- Minimize adverse environmental impacts from our operations and enhance safety through the use of planning, policy, and procedure.
- Prevent pollution by applying the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
- Promote environmental awareness.
- Monitor our performance with respect to the environment, by periodically reviewing our objectives and practices.
- Train employees and contractors to incorporate the Sun Peaks Environmental Management System into all applicable aspects of operations.
- Communicate performance to Sun Peaks directors, employees, contractors, and guests.
- Review the Environmental Management System on a regular basis to continually improve performance.

ISO 14001 Certified
As a leader in protecting the environment, the Sun Peaks Resort LLP Environmental Management System (EMS) has been certified to ISO 14001 (Certification #113313). In April 2004, Sun Peaks was the first mountain resort in North America to be certified under ISO 14001, which remains one of the world’s most recognized EMS standards.
What is ISO 14001?
ISO 14001 is the environmental management system developed by the International Organization for Standardization. The standard provides a systematic approach to the establishment of environmental policies and objectives through the allocation of resources, training, assigning of roles and responsibilities, and modifying procedures and processes.
Core elements of the ISO Environmental Management System are based on the principle of Plan-Do-Check-Act and the concept of continual improvement. Once EMS certified, companies must demonstrate continual improvement to the system to maintain good standing.

Sun Peaks Resort LLP's Eco Initiatives
The environment is the cornerstone upon which Sun Peaks exists. As stewards of the land, it is the responsibility of everyone who lives, works and plays here to proactively take steps to minimize human impacts.
Three universal guiding principles for environmental sustainability are reduce, reuse, and recycle. These three actions are implemented throughout the resort in an effort to minimize the impact of our operations. Examples include initiatives to reduce single-use plastic bottles, efforts to move to LED lighting across the resort, and research to understand CO2 emissions and sequestration possibilities.
