Explore the extensive snowshoe trail system at Sun Peaks Resort! Either connect with one of many snowshoe tours, or venture out on your own.

Along with your snowshoe day trail pass and snowshoe rental, you will receive a complimentary trail map and an interpretive guide booklet. The guide booklet will help you choose the trails to match your level of expertise and describes points of interest such as the snow cave, bird feeding station, and identification of animal tracks.

A reservation is not required for this activity. Guests should dress in warm winter clothing. Waterproof winter boots, snow pants, jacket, toque and gloves are strongly recommended.

Trail network only available to guests on snowshoes due to the winter conditions of the trails.

Snowshoe Trail Passes

A snowshoe trail pass is required to access our snowshoe trail network. Day passes ($5/day) are available to purchase online, at Guest Services and the Activities Desk. Season Passes ($42/season) are available at Guest Services and the Activities Desk.

Trail Pass/Ticket

A snowshoe trail day pass is included with snowshoe rentals and tours booked through the Activities Sales Desk.

Discover Sun Peaks Adventures marks all trails with snowshoe signs and coloured flagging tape. 

Trails are for snowshoeing only

  • Snowshoe trails are for daylight hours use only. 
  • snowshoeing off the marked trails can get you lost and/or subject you to unmarked hazards. 
  • Do not leave garbage on the trails. 
  • Stay well off the side of any Nordic ski trail. 
  • When crossing Nordic ski trails avoid stepping in the groomed classic tracks. 
  • Always take water, food, and extra clothes.

Snowshoe Tours 

Join our professional guides for a memorable Sun Peaks snowshoe tour. Choose from a wide variety of tours that best suit your ability and preference. Snowshoe equipment and trail pass are included. For more information visit the Discover Sun Peaks Adventures website.

  • Proper waterproof winter boots are required; guests should dress in warm winter clothing (snow pants, jackets, toque and gloves are strongly recommended)
  • Advance registration required. Please arrive at the Activities Sales Desk at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of your tour to sign a waiver and collect gear
  • Pets are not permitted on any of the snowshoe tours
  • No available tours on December 24 and 25, 2024 or January 1, 2025

Winter Wonderland 

Join a professional guide for a fun and informative two hour afternoon tour through the quiet snow covered terrain. The excursion begins with an introductory lesson followed by a history of snowshoeing, snowshoe technology and local lore.

Guests experience the natural habitat of local birds and animals. Stops are made at the bird feeding station, snow cave, and trapper’s camp where a hot apple cider drink and a trail treat are enjoyed.

A great introduction to the designated snowshoe trail system that has amazing views overlooking the village.

Moonlight Snowshoe & S'mores

Experience the magic of a winter's night on a Moonlight Snowshoe Tour, including a delicious campfire treat of S'mores. Beginning with an easy 3km snowshoe tour and guided trek through beautiful forest trails, guests will then enjoy a roaring fire, hot apple cider and special S'mores at our cozy winter camp.

The return journey offers beautiful views overlooking the picturesque village and its sparkling lights! An experience for everyone to enjoy, families with children 8 years and older and adults young at heart will enjoy this evening under the stars. 

snowShoe Fondue

Join us for an exciting evening snowshoe under the stars. Our guides will take you through the forest on beautiful snow covered trails out to our cozy winter camp, to enjoy a hot drink relaxing around a roaring campfire. The return journey offers amazing views overlooking the village, finishing at the cozy Sun Peaks Lodge Fondue Stube for a delicious traditional cheese and chocolate fondue.

Alpine Snowshoe Experience

Explore the spectacular sub alpine region of Sun Peaks with one of our professional guides on a fun and informative snowshoe tour on a beautiful route accessible only with a Discover Sun Peaks Adventures guide. This is a great way for non-skiers to discover Tod Mountain and enjoy amazing views.

On the trail, stop to enjoy a drink of hot apple cider and a trail treat. The tour finishes at the Sunburst Mid Mountain, where your guide will collect all snowshoe equipment.

You then have the option of returning with the guide to the base, or hanging out at mid mountain and riding down the Sunburst Express chairlift as foot passengers at your leisure.

The Alpine Snowshoe Experience Tour can be booked as a private small group tour available on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Valley of the lynx 

Join our local guides and explore the magical snowshoe trails in the tranquil East Valley of Sun Peaks. Experience the natural habitat of local birds and animals, including the elusive Canadian Lynx, and the Snowshoe Hare.

Look for wildlife tracks, and enjoy making fresh tracks of your own on fresh snow days! This is a great tour for anyone experiencing snowshoeing for the first time, or for experienced snowshoers ready to undertake their next adventure. Included is a visit to our snow cave, and time to relax at our cozy winter camp to enjoy hot apple cider, and trail treats.

McGillivary Lake Full Day 

Join us for a day snowshoe adventure to McGillivray Lake. Explore the beautiful 12km of snowshoe trails starting from the Sun Peaks Village out to McGillivray Lake and back, with a local experienced snowshoe guide. Once at the lake, enjoy a picnic lunch and hot apple cider at the McGillivray Lake Outpost warming hut. This tour is recommended for guests with a strong level of fitness, with over 500ft of elevation gain on the journey out to the lake.
